Just got done replacing the windshield of my Toyota Sienna 1998. The windshield must have been hit by a rock last December, what started out small was crawling its way through.
I called the dealer nearby and was quoted over $400 for the service, and I'd have to leave the car overnight. They did offer me a free rental to make it more convenient.
Summary:
I ended up paying $220 ($210 for work, $10 for tip), for the work that was done at my house. The job took 2.5 hours. Unfortunately, 1 hour was due to his delayed arrival, which was not too bad, as I was waiting in the comfort of my house.
The Process:
I decided to give the web a try. Went to http://yp.yahoo.com, set my home address as the location to find local guys, and searched for "windshield repair". I found this site -> http://www.glass.net. The site is convenient as it asks for my specific car details (zip code, year, make, model). Then it provided me 3 instant quotes online.
The site has customer feedback. I ended up with Auto Glass Solution (866)509-7205. I called them up Tuesday, spoke to Nicolas, and he gave me a quote that was lower than what the glass.net site provided. We agreed on a Saturday schedule.
Upon Leo's arrival, I checked on the glass to be used. It was a sunny, cold day, so I watched most of the work as it was being done. Leo worked with care -- extraction and placement were done well. To let the glass settle in, I can only drive the car after 1 hour, and give it a wash after a day.
